Literature Text

Smokes curls around me
as it leaves
your lungs

I breathe in deep
and it smells
like you

Cigarettes and fabric softener

And whenever you come over
my bed smells like you
for days

And the memories
linger for
weeks

The half-smile you give when you're trying to be quiet
The way the light catches your amber eyes
The three faint freckles below your eyebrow
The tiny gap between your two front teeth
The way your head feels against my shoulder
The way your fingers tangle with mine

The moment you leave
I miss you
I need you
I miss you
Written 3/10/2014.  The first two stanzas came to me while I was on tumblr.  I tried to structure this one a bit more, keeping the verses tapered with each line shorter than the previous, and then you have the 'bridge' about cigarette smoke and fabric softener, another bridge or refrain of sorts in the italicized portion, and the final verse.

Yes, I think about writing in music terms. :P
